The Inner Shout #Rhyme #Unapologetic

– A close friend helped with the title, and the artwork. Shoutout to her. –

A heart in question,
its intentions, unclear.
To some, it is genuine,
to others, it is feared.
.
Damage that is immense,
running deeper than a holler.
Weary of passionate voices,
disguising filth, and squalor.
.
Why trust your voice,
that’s been falsified by many?
Why let it flow,
these thoughts worth a penny?
.
For years, it’s just been us,
a community standing alone.
Degraded, tortured, and killed,
yet forced to just move on.
.
Accepting a half-assed life,
forced onto us, by you.
Ignored, and made silent,
when we tried to speak our truths.
.
Why now, and not before,
do you wish to share our passion?
Fighting for a better life,
as we started rising from the ashes.
.
Why stand beside us, now,
where you stood on us, back then?
Why reach to protect our six,
when you were never a helping hand?

The Love Man #Rhyme #Unapologetic

– His favorite song, one of many, was Love Man by Otis Redding; Hence my title –

*** I read a poem about a favorite Uncle at the cookouts. But, this one was imaginary. So, I started thinking, and her imagined Uncle, was my real Uncle. So, here’s to my Uncle Troy. Rest easy, and we love you! ***

Oh, but he was real
Dirty jokes and laughter
Tough as nails, and sweet
A man you’re always after
.
To lend an ear
To share a smile
A man so boisterous
Loving, yet wild
.
His laughter was contagious
It melted every heart
You could never stay angry
Especially when he’d fart
.
Just to get a giggle
Pillows thrown his way
Laughing hard enough to cry
He brought magic to every day

Seasonal Transformation #Rhyme #Unapologetic

The brown has dispersed
Leaving luscious green
Overpowering the death
Of which we all have seen

Draining life’s essence
From plants, and trees alike
Until barren, they’ve become
Wailing their loss at night

Alas, the time has come
Blessed be the rain
Praise the sun that shines
For healing with its rays

Chilled bones are warming
A melodious tune does play
Caressing all five senses
Bringing hope for better days

Silver Lining #Rhyme #Unapologetic

A heart that is beating
Even through the pain
Shining like a beacon
Through monsoon-type rain

Amidst a swirling storm
Wind whipping up the dust
Shattered sand clouds the air
Stinging with every gust

Although it hurts to breathe
I push onward, past the burn
Fulfilling my own destiny
A paradise for which I’ve yearned

Spring’s Explosion #Rhyme #Unapologetic

Rambunctious, rolling rivers
Luscious, lolling lakes
Caress a chaotic soul
As warmer weather does wake

Bursting buds bellow
Cascading colors billow
Revealing lively offspring
Ready to steal the show

Wandering wasps cause fright
Beautiful butterflies bring awe
Symphonic singing birds
Bring a smile to frowning jaws

Sneaky, sly Spring
Appeared abruptly here
Thawing frozen souls
Bringing life to a new year

Marred Perfection #FreeVerse #Unapologetic

I stumbled

Weak knee’d, and glitchy
An emotional beating
Bruised, yet not broken
Pain blackened vision

But, I stumbled

I cried
As I staggered, I screamed
Weakness, abundant
Embarrassingly so

I fucking stumbled

A facade cracked
Revealing such sorrow
Wailing, like distant sirens
As I crumbled

I stumbled
